Just opened A&L Premier Direct with terrible credit rating...

I have an abosolutely obismal credit rating, from when i was 18. it is in such a bad state that i was declined a basic account from the co-op only 3 months ago. My girlfriends credit rating is as bad if not worse, she was behind with loan payments, credit card etc, so we both find it absolutely impossible to get any type of credit or account.

However, we just made a joint application for the A&L Premier Direct current account, and were approved!? How so? Its not as though one of our credit ratings is helping the others, as they are both terrible.

Does anyone have any idea why this would be? They even offered us a £500 overdraft which we declined, but im so confused.

Thanks,
Jam

How old are you now? (ie: how long ago were your credit problems?)

We are 22 now, and the credit was for me around 4 years ago, for her about a year ago, but our credit ratings are still to this date knackered, we cannot get anything normally, we obtained our ratings only this month and they had not improved significantly at all, the problem is, once having bad credit, its hard to get credit, to repair your rating.... but im curious as to why it went through, because it even went to an underwriter who approved it manually. Strange.

Well continue with the app but don't hold your breath as they could decline the application at a later stage or even close your account once it's been opened.

Its already been opened, got the cheque book and tons of documentation, thanks for the vote of confidence, i feel great having mine and my partners wages paid in there now thinking they could close it straight after. No i know you are right, banks are banks afterall.

How did it go to their underwriter, did they decline your initial application and you query it?

When I opened Premier (not direct) account recently (mainly to claim the £100) it said they would not give me overdraft or CC, although I had not actually asked for either on my application. Halifax offered me preapproved 500 OD so my rating cant be too bad. It would have been nice to get an AL OD though because its 0%.

    Hi,

I too got approved, nearly died of shock as my credit rating is beyond help.

Again no CC or overdraft (didn't apply for them though).

I got approved within 2 minutes by email and am now in my third month of using the account.

By the by, not everywhere accepts my visa debit card, as comes up like a solo/electron card at my mainline rail station, but fine online and A&L say that shouldn't happen as it IS 100% a visa debit card.

Came with a chequebook but is not a cheque guarantee card..

Maybe others with bad credit rating should try getting one of these accounts - it's always worth a go, esp if your credit rating can't get any worse (like mine!).

There has been alot of issues with this card. They say it a full Visa debit. It's infact an all auth card like a Visa Electron or Solo.

It does get accepted in more places than Electron or Solo though.

I applied last September and got declined. I may try again soon.

    Thanks sutton111.

I was looking through the boards to see if I could find info on anyone else having problems with the card - that's interesting as had no clue. Haven't had any probs yet apart from the train station so fingers crossed.
