£155 probably a utility bill. Have you moved house in the last year or so. Working for a collections company I have come across a number of people who thought they paid for water once a year, and not every six months etc.

Did you cancel a direct debit for a service such as Sky or a mobile. A lot of people cancel contracts, before the final direct debit comes out. I once got the hump because it was 6 months before I got a final bill when I swopped energy suppliers. I thought it had all been settled.

On the letter, if it doesn't say what the debt is for, does it give a reference number for the debt. This is sometimes the account of the company claiming money. For example the credit card number or phone number.

It could be that they have done a trace, and found the right name but wrong person. Dont ignore it as they will continue to write to you. Im surprised that the letter doesn't say who the debt is owed to. Thats just stupid. What idiot pays money to a company they have never heard of on the strength of a letter. Actually dont answer that!
