I have been diagnosed as suffering from Parkinsonism and have had my application for DLA turned down
I believe that there is something somewhere that says that Parkinsonism is treated as a special case and is always accepted - does anyone know the link - my specialist consultant is on the case - but will DWP listen to him ?

It is not about the diagnosis, it's about how you are effected on a daily basis. So you need to tell DLA what your care needs and mobility needs are.
There are special rules, If you have a progressive disease and you are not expected to live for more than another six months there are special rules for claiming to make sure you get your benefit more quickly and easily.
If you have not done so you need to lodge an appeal.
Good luck

Hello 21Twinkle,
This may be the link you were thinking about.
http://www.dwp.gov.uk/medical/med_conditions/major/pd/
This is the DWP's reference on medical conditions, and you can view the links to the left hand side.
Like tenacious123 has said, it's about the care you need because of your illness, not the illness it's self.
So if you have strategies to cope with the disability, it may appear that you don't need help.

Thanks - my UPDRS is 10
I am in the early stages
I have lodged an appeal0 -
its about what help you need in house or to get out and about, not what illness you have, if you need help cooking or some one to dress you ect. you can't walk far and need help to go out , ect. get CAB to help you appeal or other type place, fingers crossed for youthe truth is out there ... on these pages !!0

In the early stages of Parkinson's you are very unlikely to get DLA, as with the right medication your mobility can be relatively unaffected.
My wife applied some 5 or 6 years after being diagnosed and the illness had progressed to the point where her walking was badly affected and she was still refused, though we did then succeed on appeal.0 -
Unless you have other conditions as well, with a score of 10/199 I would not expect you to be able to get DLA.
Your consultant does not seem to know much about DLA, as with many consultants. You're better off using the CAB, DIAL or similar.0 -
That's out of 30 - where do you get 199 from ?0

In monotherapy, a Total UPDRS score is the combined sum of parts I, II, and III: 0 (not affected) to 176 (most severely affected).
In adjunct therapy, part IV is included. Part IV contains 11 questions and the scale can range from 0 to 23.
