Confused after job centre visit

My husband had his appointment at the job centre on Friday aftr being made redundent. It has left us no nearer knowing what benefits or money we will get as apparantly it can take up to three weeks for it to be processed.
We saw two advisors, the first said that as he has never been out of work in over 30 years he will get contribution JSA the othr said that they may decide on income based as I am on long term IB but it depends on whether our income is less than the government says a family of three needs to live on. We are now really confused as he didnt tell us what the basic income needed is:confused:
Basically for two adults and one 12 year old we have
£37 a week child tax credit
£96.00 a week my incapacity benefit
£64 a week my DLA (although this isnt counted for benefits)
and then whatever JSA the give my husband
Any one out there that understand all the JSA jargon, I would love to hear your input

Your husband will get single rate Contributions JSA only, this is around sixty pounds, its just gone up so I'm not exactly sure, he won't get IB JSA because you are already claiming IB for yourself, you may be entitled to further tax credits for your child.

They can be pretty unclear at the JC can't they, so my sympathies. Your husband should definitely be entitled to Contribution Based Jobseekers Allowance, presuming that he wasn't self employed. This has just gone up to £64.30 per week. This will be for 6 months.

You might also be able to get some more benefits, based on your income. I think you should be able to claim council tax benefit, which the jobcentre people should be able to sort out for you, as part of your husband's claim. At least you can in my area (Manchester).

If you haven't already, then you need to let the tax credit people know about your change in circumstances. Frustratingly, this might mean that they reckon they've overpaid you, even though your income is now lower, but you never know with them, the system is seemingly unfathomable.

    Hi there

I note you mentioned DLA, would you also be eligible for Carer's allowance?

I see that you added £64, I take it that is a week, to be eligible for this, the care rate should be at least middle rate.
For my son its high rate care and receives low rate mobility, but they go by the care rate and not the mobility.

I receive the Carer's allowance. More info below.

Carers would depend on a DLA care award rate of middle/high.

Thanks everyone, for the quick answers, I guess we will just have to wait and see. We arent entitled to carers as I get high mobility and low care.
The second advisor we saw actually made us laugh, he had been brought out of retirement because they are so busy and readily admits that the one place that have plenty of work are the job centres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whether or not he receives contributions based JSA depends on his NI payments over the last two years.

As far as I am aware, you receiving incapacity benefit should not affect that in any way, but please someone correct me if I am wrong.

If he hasn't paid enough contributions during the last two years, or the wrong sort if he was self employed, then your IB would likely wipe out any IBJSA he would receive, but CB JSA is not affected by other income or savings.

As usual you have been given some very good information from MSE.

I would just like to add that the advisors in the Jobcentre are normally doing the best they can. However they are normally not trained in benefits so are unlikely to know what you would receive. For any information regarding benefits you are best to contact your local benefit delivery centre. Your husband should have been given the telephone number.

It can however take a long time to get through and if you phone from a mobile could get pretty expensive.
