Travel Insurance for UK only?

Hi I am thinking of taking out an annual policy to cover me for different UK based short breaks etc I am planning this year with my daughter. Cannot insure her as she is currently on chemo for brain tumour. Want to give her a really good summer and have all sorts of trips in mind for her. I will be booking rail trips (often over £50 for two or three of us) plus self catering accommodation etc. I wondered if all this would be covered if I was unable to travel for any reason? Would need a policy with the minimum excess possible for cancellation etc. We are on a tight budget and can save a lot of money by planning ahead but am nervous committing to anything as we usually do things at last minute so an annual policy would be well worth it I think?

There are plenty of companies that include UK trips in their policy, I'm not aware of any companies that just offer a policy specifically for UK trips though (Although there may be some).

What you have to be careful of is the definition of what the Insurer has of a UK trip that is covered. It normally involves "Prebooked accomadation" and often states that it has to be 2 or more nights.

Here is the definition of a UK trip that would be covered by Direct Line (Chosen for no other reason than they are a well known Insurer).

Journey A holiday or trip of no more than 42 days that star ts and ends during the period
shown in the policy schedule. The journey can be for pleasure or business, but it must not
involve manual work. It can be:
    • a journey abroad within the specifi ed geographical region that begins in the UK and ends
    when you return home; or
    • a journey within the UK where you travel outside a 25-mile radius of your home and stay for
two or more nights in pre-arranged accommodation.

To find the definition you normally have to look at the Policy Wording which most companies have as an option to view on their website. Its normally in the first few pages and is often on the page that gives the definition of what words in the policy mean

You need to declare your daughters Chemo to the Insurers and they may refuse cover, or offer cover with a larger excess and or with an extra premium to pay. There are companies that specialise in offering cover for travellers with medical conditions. A good place to try would be any cancer associations as they will have a deal with a travel insurer who is sympathetic to cancer patients. Their website may also have some advice for travel.
