Hi there, great diary. Just out of curiosity and me being just a little bit nosey, but how long ago did you go bankrupt? I thought you were not allowed credit and overdrafts etc for quite some time after going BK. Good luck with everything.

Well now you don't have any tea to distract you, you'd better get on with updating your signature and letting us know what you've been up to this week

No problem at all, I don't mind...
We went Bankrupt on 9th November 2003 - we were pretty lucky that they changed the bankruptcy rules in April 2004 to one year instead of three, so we were only Bankrupt until April 2005.
We had a basic bank account for it must have been about three years, and then I just applied to FD and was lucky enough to get one of their accounts as I must admit, they have been brilliant with any problems we have ever had, including being out of work, temp overdrafts, etc. but we have always kept our account in order and I try to keep a track of it too (especially after the rent debarkle
) and if I know we are ever going to have a problem, I contact them - I don't leave things now, I deal with them and it makes things MUCH easier, which may be why they help us - that is where we went wrong before, hid our heads in the sand, and the main thing that I learned from going bankrupt - deal with stuff and seek help, don't try to deal with it all on your own and hide from problems...
Anyway, that came with an automatic £1000 overdraft which we didn't use at all in the beginning and I was very proud of that, and when hubby was working we were offered an £8000 loan and a credit card, we took the card for emergencies but we only took £5000 of the offered loan - £3800 for my training and the other £1200 to get the business things up and running. it was about 2 months after setting it all up that hubby got laid off, typical eh!
I already had the freemans catalogue, and because we didn't owe anything on that at the time, we didn't have to notify them that we were bankrupt (I think you only have to let anybody you owe more than £250 know, but don't quote me on that
) and the vanquis cards are given to most people because they charge an exhorborant amount of interest WHICH WE NOW DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANY MORE :j:j:j thanks to my insurance payout.
Anyway, that is how we became back into debt - a bit boring but there it is...:DLBM April 2013 - £29,000.00Vanquis CC's PAID - Debenhams SC PAID - A+L OD PAID - Asda CC £783.75Barclaycard CC £1400.78 - BoS CC PAID - Freemans Cat PAIDF/D Loan & CC £1458.96 - Santander Loan PAID - Mum Loan PAIDRBS OD PAID - F/D OD £1026.52Weekly Grocery Challenge - £95.00 budget / spend £-0 -

OK, will update now before I forget...
The Good Stuff...
Well, obviously the cheque has cleared and we no longer owe anything to Vanquis... :j:j:j:j:j well, there may be a bit of interest left next month, but as it was paid off at the end of the month for each card, and they add the interest for that month up to that date then, it shouldn't be much at all... Yay... am soooo chuffed about that, so we [STRIKE]should[/STRIKE] will be able to pay off more to the next thing now... will update snowball tomorrow when I sit down and work out my accounts properly...
I worked 4 days last week and earned £340 which is great, as the next few weeks will be a bit slimmer... Should get paid that by the end of the month, so that is towards next months bills...;)
I brought the van home on Tuesday and left my car there, so no Diesel used that day (over 100 miles saved - approx £12 plus wear and tear...)
The Bad Stuff...
The Gas and Electric bills came via email today - £86.07 for Gas and £180.86 for electric for the quarter... that is from my readings (have been taking them regularly Greenbee
). I had a bit of an argument with them (BG) so being the stroppy woman that I am I cancelled my DD and said that I would look for another supplier and then didn't... (must sort that out to get a good deal...:o) now have to pay this in one go... silly, silly me...
I lost £20 on Friday just after drawing it out... I think I lost it out of my pocket when I went and used the Loo in Tesco... must remember not to put cash into my jean pockets and put it in my purse...
The Naughty Stuff...
Well, I didn't manage one packed lunch while working last week which I am really annoyed about, but I didn't go too mad, I spent £4.80 on a coffee and bacon sandwich in the office first thing Tuesday and then £4.68 in Ikea on meatballs and chips and a tea as I was starving later in the day... that was my worst day. I spent nothing extra on Wednesday as lunch was brought for me, I brought a sandwich in the cafe down the road and a can of coke - £2.20 which I thought was really good, especially as it was proper ham, not thin stuff, loads of salad and made fresh while I watched... Friday, I am afraid I wained and went to Macdonalds - £3.79 on a happy meal, so a total of £15.47 wasted...
I really want to get that budgetting sorted but just haven't had 5 mins to myself - everytime I start to sort it something else pops up... I will have a good effort tomorrow, I promise...LBM April 2013 - £29,000.00Vanquis CC's PAID - Debenhams SC PAID - A+L OD PAID - Asda CC £783.75Barclaycard CC £1400.78 - BoS CC PAID - Freemans Cat PAIDF/D Loan & CC £1458.96 - Santander Loan PAID - Mum Loan PAIDRBS OD PAID - F/D OD £1026.52Weekly Grocery Challenge - £95.00 budget / spend £-0 -
As you've been doing your meter readings you should be able to get yourself the right deal for gas/electric, as you'll be able to work out your usage in kwH rather than basing it on your monthly payments. Remember to check out the discounts you can get, and if you switch, see which sites offer you the best deals and whether you can use a cashback site. Don't assume that dual fuel is necessarily the best deal for your consumption/in your area.
Your utility bills look OK - although the electricity could probably come down. Make sure that having DD at home again doesn't put them up too much! You should be able to get them right down now the weather is (apparently) warming up and the days are longer.0 -

Well done on the Vanquis pay-off FF - it's a great sense of achievement when you get on a roll with it isn't it.
