Teatime top tip: reusing teabags

Options
I've recently started drinking herbal tea as I found ordinary tea was dehydrating me a fair bit. Trouble is the peppermint teabags are about £1.20 for two dozen even on the market stalls. I've found however that each bag can be used about three times without any loss of flavour. I put the bag in a sealed container and don't keep for more than a day - I assume the boiling water kills most germs anyway. This also works for ordinary teabags.

I use teabags mre than once, but then I am a tight wad........ you may have to leave them in a little longer the tird cup, but we manage to get 4 mugs of tea per tea bag!!!!Squeeze them against the side of the cup with a spoon and lift out into a saucer ready for the next time........ never had any mould grow on them yet!!!

If you put them in a teapot and leave them to *mash* you can then put the made tea into a thermos - saves on teabags + conserves energy and time.

    Great tip AA, thanks.

And once completely finished with ... put them in your compost heap, or open them up and sprinkle the tealeaves over your garden borders/pots.

Thanks for this. I had never thought of using a tea bag twice let alone four times. I like my tea quite strong, will it still work?

I use queenies method of putting in a flask for ordinary tea

with herbal teas I make more with one teabag and put whats left in fridge to drink iced
  • Since trying to cut down on caffeine, I just have a slice of lemon and/or ginger in hot water. Much nicer than most of the herbal or fruit teas I've tried, and very cheap too
