What do you do when no money at weekends?

I live in a first floor flat and have some window boxes on my balcony sill (tied onto the railings), I grow flowers in one and veg in the other. I also have a small plastic zip up greenhouse which is filled with seeds - yet more veg. I also walk to the local village about 1.5 miles or even go for a walk around the block or up to the Lickey Hills (this is about 2 miles distant). I read books, I volunteer my services - deliver leaflets for free, help out with a local charity when they have a car wash.
You don't have to have a lot of money to have a good time just like you don't need to have a garden to be able to grow your own veg:D
Have not thought about of Lickey Hills for years, we used to go in summer on weekends with my mom and dad, we would spend all afternoon playing in the hills. I no longer live in Brum, (if we were very good and money allowed as a special treat we went into arcade).
You have made me smile remembering !0 -

Its on these skint days that I end up having the most fun with the kids. Usually its always a rush on to get things done, pay this, drop off that etc etc that we planned what to do, spent all day together doing things outside, picnic in garden for lunch, baked and just enjoyed our chilled together time.0

Hi,
I live alone and am very broke but never get bored.
Last weekend- I baked Twinks (yum!).
- Watched a movie on TV and ate them
- Surfed the internet
- Made a coatstand I'd picked up in Ikea weeks ago.
- Tidied a bit (but not as much as I should have)
- Went for a walk up the mountains as it was lovely weather
- Did a bit more papier mache (with junk mail and free local newspapers). I can't do a link as I'm new but Nykmedia has some inspiring posts elsewhere in the forums.
- Tended to my ailing basil plant as I'd forgotten to give it any water in a long time.
I'm also planning to grow more stuff on my window sill. I have a packet of alfalfa/brocolli shoot seeds that you can grow in a jar so I'll sort that next weekend.
Spent a good while on my spending diary/budget planner and added some bells and whistles to my spreadsheet - it makes me feel more in control of my finances.
NualaTrying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I' have never really thought about it before, but I'm not sure we actually spend much at the weekends unless buying something in particular. Our usual weekends consist of:
- An easy sat and sun morning reading/knitting/surfing net while DD plays and we read to her etc with a leisurely breakfast.
- Sat lunchtime we visit my parents which keeps DD more than happy and all of us fed
- Sat afternoon we go for a drive, visit a park, the coast, or a country walk etc until it is time to return home for dinner. Sometimes we will go to the local shopping mall and treat ourselves to a mid-afternoon pot of tea between us and some cake which only costs a couple of quid.
- Sundays are more or less the same - spend the mornings doing a bit of housework and preparing Sunday dinner tho. Sometimes we don't go as far on a Sunday afternoon and just prefer a walk around where we live and/or sit in the garden reading and playing with DD.

I live right on the coast, so I would go for a run along coastal path (like I did this am). I would come back, have soak in bath with a good book, something to eat, then off to the beach with said book till dusk.(with a flask of hot choc, and picnic).:DGrocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.

Go for a walk. But before you go, get a book on free food/foraging from the library (or second hand on Amazon for a couple of quid). Take a rucksack and some plastic containers. This way, you can forage for food on your walk and actually save money!'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0

We tend to spend very little at the weekends - £1.80 on the papers on Saturdays tends to be it.
The rest of the time is spent:
- walking the dog
- catching up on household chores
- washing, drying and ironing clothes
- watching sport on telly
- cleaning the cars
- watching DVDs
- having friends over for a meal and catch up
- studying
If you've got internet access, you could catch up with programmes that you've not seen during the week via BBC iPlayer, Ch4OD etc,
Hope you manage to fill your time!0 -

Some of my best weekends are skint weekends - I read, I do my family tree online, I bake, I watch films on Surf the Channel, I look for recipes for cheap meals, I freecycle, ebay etc and see if I can make some pennies that way. I spent time with my OH and our cats cuddling and watching films we have taped.
I love that there is no pressure on us to spend money - we can make our own entertainment - sometimes this is just pampering sessions, or running a bath for each other or even massages. And I am not talking about sexy stuff just appreciating the wind down time.0
