More help with windows mobile please

Can someone please explain what the difference is between the regular email settings and the Outlook settings on a winmo device?
I have set up and use with no problem the regular email but can't get the outlook one to work.
a) what's the difference between them, and
b)how do I set up outlook on my handheld?
Thanks in advance,

  • Here is a tip on helping you setup outlook on your windows mobile phone xxxx With windows mobile 6.5 being officially released tomorrow you may want to check that out as well because it has a ton of new features and apps that will be great.

I think the Outlook settings for for syncing with an Exchange server or with Outlook on Windows via ActiveSync. The regular settings are for POP/IMAP type e-mail accounts like Yahoo, GMail, etc.

How do I go about loading Windows mobile 6.5 instead of the 6 that I have on the handset now?

You probably can't. Most devices are based on a base copy of Windows Mobile adapted by the manufacturer to suit the device. Manufacturers rarely release update versions. Some enthusiast group hack there own version together for specific handset (especially HTC phones on xda-developers site) but your in the realms of unofficial quite possibly unreliable software - for technos only!

If you want to use use your phone like a portable version of Outlook on your PC thats one thing. Personally on my Windows Mobile phone I like to use just a plain old fashioned email program so I use free program called QMail.

    Not necessarily true.
I have an O2 XDA Stellar (HTC TyTN II) which came with Windows 6.0 (I think) but I have since updated it to an official release of Windows 6.1 from the O2 website ;)

Actually, I think he was right the first time. when Microsoft releases updates to Windows Mobile, the manufacturer won't necessarily offer to update handsets already owned by its customers.
The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.
