My Bank have done wrong by charging me £35 for returned Direct Debit when i accidently went over my limit, i actually thought i had the money in my bank, and i only knew this when i recieved my bank statements which said i was getting charged £35 next month yet i hadnt recieved a formal letter saying that i will recieve a charge for this. I did recieve a letter saying that a Direct Debit was returned to me due to me not having sufficent money in my bank, no mention of the charges so will i get the charge dropped?
I am seeing my bank tomorrow about this. just wanted to know any extra info in case.
I am getting frustrated now cos have been searching for jobs the past 3 days and all jobs say need to use phone over or need to communicate with public quite well. I am deaf so need more advice on how i can get around this problem? Thanks :wall:

Try contacting the companies directly - wite out a standard letter and send to companies. You'll find you getter results if you don't send it to "the HR department" but try to find out online if you can get a name of someone in HR or a senior manager or even a director. If you get a "persons" attention then you'll stand much more chance of getting a job

Why dont you speak to the Disability employment advisor at the Job Centre?
Also find out if there is a job club type thing in your area for disabled people.
I know there is one in Perth & Dudee which I have heard is good.I think each local authority is supposed to have one.

Yes, thats it EDU.
They shouldent need a referral from social worker.
You could get your contact from RNID to do you a referral. Not that I think that they should need one.
Good luck

and take a look at the other bank charges threads - it sounds like you should be able to claim them back, whether or not the bank put them in their terms and conditions.0

Companies are not allowed to discriminate against deaf people without a very good reason. Not all jobs need the phone, especially, as someone else has pointed out, in this day and age of emails, faxes, texts, etc.
If you need a textphone to phone prospective employers and you do not have one (and they are not cheap at £200 up!), BT rent out textphones for £15 per quarter. I just got mine and it is an absolute godsend, gives me so much more independence.
Also, do not necessarily be put off by adverts that say you need a good telephone manner. I worked for 7 years in a job where the ad said this. I fitted all the other criteria, so I sent in my CV anyway, with a letter explaining that the phone was the only thing I could not do (I am profoundly deaf). They invited me for an interview and offered me the job on the spot. 10 years later I am still with the same firm, though in a different post, for more money!
Keep trying. Don't let yourself be written off in that way just because you're deaf. We're as good as everyone else, and a lot of the time we have to work a damn site harder!Debt Free Nerd #3100
