House insurance - converted steading?

We live in a farm steading that was originally built some time around 1900. It was completely modernised (parts completely rebuilt) and converted to a house around 1996.
Doing online quotes it asks when the house was built, if I put 1996 instead of 1900 I get a quote half the price. Don't mind paying the higher premium but only if the lower premium is in fact the wrong premium.
I'll phone the insurer later this morning but wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience.

You need to put in when the home was originally built eg 1900, if the home is listed they will probably want to know about that as well0
