I think i've been done by a dealer. Advice please.

First post, urgent help needed so could a Mod please kindly move this topic if it's in the wrong area.

Ok, I need a new car and spotted one I liked in a car supermarket priced at £7995. I went into the back to fill out the finance forms (HP) The guy was looking worried at the computer, he asked me if I'd be willing to pay some extra money each month (£7) for a warrenty, I said yes as I assumed he was trying to stengthen my finance proposal.
The guy went away and I got my calculator and worked out that this warrenty for a year would cost me over £400, I wasn't happy with this so decided to tell the guy I didn't want it when he came back. He tried to talk me out of it then said he's sort something out for me.
He came back later and said he's managed to include free Gap insurance for the same price as the warrenty. I was generally happy and we completed the agreement. The salesman explained that he had to mess around with the figures to include the Gap insurance.
my proposal shows the gap insurance and warrenty costs and a reduced cost to the car, in effect he's reduced the price of the car to compensate the Gap insurance.
This seemed dodgy but it wasn't costin g me any more so I was still quite happy.

Anyway.

I came home tonight to show my girlfriend the car on the internet (i pick it up Monday) and i'm shocked to see the car on sale at the lower price, the price it would be without the Gap insurance "deal." I'm now feeling ripped off somewhat. I'm thinking maybe the price of the car was due to drop and instead of giving me a good deal they decided to keep the price as it was and throw in Gap insurance that i'd have never bought otherwise.

What should i do?

I'm due to pick the car up on Monday. I really like it but i'm willing to let it go. Can I still cancel the warrenty and GAP? Will it mean a new credit search?
Do you think I sould take my print off of the internet advert and demand I only pay that price?

I don't know what to do.

Thanks in advance.

You get a 14 day cooling off period on Insurance Products so you could cancel it.

You could buy the gapcover on the internet for around £150 a the warranty for a faction of what they have quoted

How can the warranty at £7 per month cost over £400 in a year?

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. It's spread over 5 years so that would make it £420 (60 x £7) even thoguh i'd only get a 1 year warrenty the payments would in effect be spread over the 5 years.

    Thanks for your replys.

Golden rule of car buying...if it doesnt feel right, walk away.
  • Cancel the GAP, that way you still get the car at a reduced price with the warranty.

Read the T+C's very carefully but i don't see any problem with that.

If you cancel they will keep your deposit so try to avoid that assuming you still want the car and are happy with rest of the deal.

Underhand tactics but i'm afraid its buyer beware, in essence you have now contracted to by the car from them at a certain price...what they advertise it at is now irrelevant (they would never have to sell it at that price if they didn't want to, its called a invitation to treat).
