My neighbours are catching and killing the squirrels :-(

I have found out that my neighbours are catching and killing the local squirrels - I was beginning to wonder why I had not seen any squirrels recently.

I don't agree with killing things unnecessarily - what can I do??

I have also found out that a poor little hedgehog got stuck in their trap today, OMG I am so annoyed.

AS far as i am aware, only pest control can set cages for squirrels, they have to visit the cages daily to avoid any unnecessary suffering too. Once they have been caught, they cannot be released, as they are classed as vermin, so are then humanely killed.
If your neighbours have not employed registered pest control, they technically should not be doing this.
Squirrels sometimes have to be dealt with, as they can cause untold damage once they get into your loft, this is the main reason for pest control to be called out.
Yes they are lovely, but not thousands of pounds worth of lovely!!!

My what lovely neighbours you have. I would start ringing the council and asking what can be done about it then perhaps as a personal gift you could rig a human sized trap outside their door in the middle of the night and watch with glee the next morning as one of them squirms helplessly trying to escape it.

Edit: i got waaaaaay too much visual pleasure writing that haha
  • what are the reasons they're killing squirrels please as i don't know why and it's killing me not knowing and also do squirrels eat daffodils as my mate told me my daffodils were eaten by squirrels(i'm not gunna hurt them or awt i just want to know what's destroyed all my daffodils) but i don't believe him i think it's slugs.are red squirrels nearly endangered if they are endangered then you can't mess with them and must leave them alone no matter how much of a pest they are leeches are a pest if they start sucking on you and you can be prosecuted for pulling one off(heard it on the one show)you have to wait till they have finished taking your blood

Am I allowed to drown the neighbours, once I have caught them in a man trap?

I keep thinking - what goes around, comes around!

Slick Detective, it's much too late for thinking about things sucking on my blood - i'll have nightmares!

I don't really know why the neighbours want to kill the squirrels - they are doing no harm, from what I can see.

Well these idots should know that Red squirrels are by law protected, The poor Grey squirrels dumped here without their consent ( A bit like slaves, their ancestors were minding their own business when some idiot kidnapped them and took them over the water, then put them to use ) are considered a pest. But yes rightly so things have to be done humainly.

As to the injury of Hedgehogs. Well I would like to borrow as many large Garden Gnomes, with big sharp pointy hats as I can and much in the mood of Faulty Towers, Shove the Gnomes where your neighbours sun don't shine!

Grey squirrels are classed as a pest, because they take over an area and eat all the food that the native red squirrels should be eating.

If you see grey squirrels in your area, then phone the council and they will arrange for them to be dealt with, thereby giving the red squirrel's a chance.

Phone up and grass on your neighbours, crimestoppers would be anonymous, I would think it's against the law to law traps for wild animals outside the home without prior permission.

Grey squirrels are more or less rats with pretty tails, I don't see you lot liking rats in your gardens.

This is typical of the uk population today, lets kill all the horrible little insects that might sting us (or scare us) (that we rely on for a working ecosystem) and let the cute little squirrel and the fox run around and cause mayhem.

We've got grey squirrels. This year she's had three babies. They've not yet come down to the bird feeder but it won't be long. All my pots have wire mesh over them (I learnt that one very quickly!) and if I see them digging up the garden/lawn or at the bird table I chuck water at them. I don't want them killed, I just don't want them ruining my garden.
