Advice on my daughters debt please
Comments

has she considered bankruptcy - it may seem like a harsh route, but it is a lot simpler than it used to be and only lasts for a year (seems unfair that she should continue to suffer for a further 5 years, especially when she has none of the items that were bought with the credit :O(
an IVA can be a good alternative, but if she has very little money she might not be able to make an attractive enough offer to the creditors for them to accept her proposals?
Speak to one of the free debt advice agencies (they will be happy to speak to you on her behalf) they can run through all the details and give you accurate options of where to go from here:
Payplan https://www.payplan.com
CCCS https://www.cccs.co.uk
NDL https://www.national debtline.co.uk
Good luck - remind her its not her fault, you never think about things happening like this when your in love with someone, you just trust them and it can all seem so innocent?0 -
lynda_carol wrote:After a failed relationship my daugters was left £25,000 in debt, her ex very cleverly put everything in her name! The majority of the debt is owed to the halifax, after getting into debt with them with her credit cards they persuaded my 22 yr old to take out a large colidsidation loan. Once my daugher came home I helped her try to sort it out. The c.a.b. have been marvelous and have even got the bully boys at the halifax to accept a payment plan. Unfortunately, with her annual wage, this debt will take forever to pay off. Does anybody know about I.V.A. I believe this is a scheme where you make payments for 5 yrs then the remainder of the debt is wiped out. Where do we go to get advoce on this? Another problem she has is, because of her lousey credit rating, no bank, although her monthly wage is paid into an account, will give her an account with a debit card. The account she has at the moment just has a cash card, so every other night her brother has to escourt her down to the hole in the wall to get her lunch money extra extra.
Hi, I`m 28 and am in a similar situation. Like yourselves i went to C.A.B, they have been brillant. I no longer deal with any phones calls or letters the cab deal with everything for me, they have arranged payment plans to my suit my monthly income and given me the advice and light at the end of the tunnel. I have taken on a second job which is hard going but if any company takes me to court it shows that i am trying. So far I have had one settlement offered from A&L which has been paid and cleared the debt. In time this may happen to your daughter and with the help from cab is becomes alot easier to deal with. CAB will also talk you through the best options your daugher has available, be it an IVA or bankruptcy....0 -
May also be worth trying local community police - if stuff was bought in daughters name then ex has stolen it - it may not stick up in court but a police raid on his new address might persuade him to give some of it back to avoid problems.
All this depends on sympathetic bobby and evidence of title to property and a lot of luck. Try for a crime reference number and see where it goes - theft is theft and if it can be easily solved the police might be interested to get a quick conviction to improve their detection stats.0 -
agree with mrwibble. why not launch a police complaint. also if she has household insurance, can she claim on stolen goods? i suspect the answer is no because this person was living with her . but even then, if it has been stolen, then she should have some recourse.0

Absolutely go to the police! It is theft! Those goods belong to her and he has taken them without her permission!
Don't waste time trying to get appointments with solicitors or CAB or anyone! Call the police! Don't let the little scrote get away with it! :mad:0
