Thai banks to start charging for ATM withdrawals where a foreign card is used

I searched the forums and couldn't see this posted so hope it's not a duplicate. Thought it may be useful for anybody planning to go to Thailand.
Effective from 17th April 2009 Thai banks are to charge 150 baht (£3 approx at current exchange rates) per transaction when withdrawing cash using a credit or debit card on top of any charges your own bank makes. I tried to post link but being classed as a newbie I'm not allowed.
I'm off to Thailand in June and I'm currently researching alternatives to my Nationwide debit card as they are passing on a 1% Visa charge as well. I may have to go back to using travellers cheques:rolleyes:

Thanks, that was the link I tried to post, by all accounts there are very few Thai banks that aren't members. It may not be too bad in Bangkok as there may be branches of some of the big international banks people can withdraw cash from. In the tourist resorts I'm guessing you will have no choice.0

Thanks, looks like I will have to find a Kasikorn Bank, I'm off to Ao Nang in Krabi and couldn't see if the other two had atm's there.
Could I ask where you got the info from (so I can keep myself updated), I don't go while June and would be interested in knowing if the banks you've listed are still not charging in June.0
