Egg CC direct debit

Hi all,
We have just finished our 0% anniversary offer with Egg and transferred the balance to another card. Because the Egg card now has a nil balance I cancelled the DDR but have received a letter today to say that we have to keep this open for 'any future spending'. I am not happy about them having authority to debit funds from my bank account for a card I am not using but just wondered
a) Is this usual ?
b) If I don't set up a new DDR will this mean the card will be cancelled
and I therefore potentially forfeit the 0% anniversary offer this year?

Thanks

Amanda x

It's not usual with most providers but it's a condition of Egg's that you must have a DD set up.

You can't 'not' set up a DD with Egg. If you don't want a DD set up you'll have to close your account. However, due to the anniversary offer, that wouldn't be a very good thing to do as you have already identified.

If it bothers you so much...

    1. Set the DD to collect the minimum payment
    2. Don't forget you are covered by the DD guarantee.
