Paypal refund - possible dilemma with buyer

Hello, this is my first post, been a long time lurker but now need some advice if possible!

If paypal only ask for a tracking number to prove *something* has been returned to the seller in order to issue a refund, is it possible for a buyer to send a similar item, same shape, weight etc and still be refunded for the item they won and get away with it? For example, a buyer wins doll A for £50 and doll B for £20, but sends back doll B and enters the tracking number into the claim for doll A - will paypal refund for doll A because the buyer has a tracking number proving a package was returned to their seller, even though that package is not what the seller sent in the 1st place with regards to that particular claim? The item isn’t worth court action or anything if it does happen, but obviously if my hands are tied I will think carefully about the transaction! I assume the police wouldn't be interested hehehe

I can't really figure out your angle... but it's best not to think this might happen, unless you have good reason to think you're dealing with a toerag. Assuming of course you're not planning on doing it yourself!

    Hi welcome

yes it is possible all the buyer needs to do is put in a trcking number for something that was sent to your address, however this would be very dishonest and you can once its been received report fraud (i think thats what paypal call it) and inform paypal what you received back wasnt what you sent etc.

Soolin is the ebay guru by the looks of it and i am sure she will provide you with lots of help and advice along with many other users.

Has this happened to you or is this just in theory

Oh god no! Ive been had by paypal in the past, to cut a long story short i sent an expensive item to a buyer, who claimed non-receipt, despite sending me numerous and abusive emails complaining they didn't want it anymore, it was damaged, they didn't like it, it wasn't the item they bought etc, all lies, but anyway, paypal refunded their money despite me providing a tracking number with their signature plain for all to see, proving they had it, and photos proving all their accusations of damage etc were lies, and i had a 3 month battle to get my money refunded - i dont trust paypal is all! I also got the police involved, they didn't want to know (it was a lot of money!)

Me, im completely honest to the point of letting myself be walked all over

the reason i ask is because the content of some of the emails i have received regarding the items is a little dodgy to say the least, the buyer has actually 'joked' about buying both then returning the cheaper one for a refund of the more expensive, and feedback suggests he returns things on a regular basis and isnt happy with anything he receives. I don't really want to go into details in case im completely wrong and the buyer is wrongly accused of being a scam artist :)

think i might just block the bids, if he isn't just winding me up, which i've also had before :j

Im maybe a bit paranoid after my last dodgy dealing with paypal, but not completely crazy, at least not yet :rotfl:

thanks for the replies, much appreciated

Lea The scenario you have just described is a fairly common one used by scammers, they tell you how a con trick works and then use it on you the fact they have already told you how it works is meant to put you off the trail so to speak.

If I were you I would block that seller from all your auctions now and in the future, its better to be safe than sorry in a situation like this IMHO!
