Closure of Abbey E-saver Direct account

Options
I'm hoping someone can confirm what I have just been told by Abbey. A few days ago I requested the closure of my E-saver direct account over the phone. I have just logged into my online banking where I saw two lines

16 Apr 09 CLOSURE OF ACCOUNT xxxxxx xxxxxxxx xx.xx 0.00
16 Apr 09 ACCOUNT CLOSURE CREDITED TO xxxxxx yyyyyyyy xx.xx -xx.xx

I have done the second account as yyyyyyyy as this account is not one of my accounts. So from that, the closing balance has been credited to an account that is not mine.

However, having spoken to Abbey they say the money is credited to some closure account and then within 14 days credited to one of my other Abbey accounts. Has anyone else closed an e-saver direct account recently and did their closure happen like this?

I recently closed an Abbey eSaver - on 3rd of April they closed it (having emptied the account on 21st March), I was still able to logon and look at the details. I knew interest was still due to be paid to me.

Like you I saw the two lines - phoned them - the chap didnt seem to know what was up - "Its never happened before" he said, "please hold on".

Finally after 10 minutes he tries to do something but his system couldnt, then tells me to go a branch taking some forms of ID. I told all I expect from closure is a cheque in post.

this was 7th April I think - anyway straight away I trudge to the branch.

Get to the branch, wait 15 minutes in the queue (they are slow, 2 cashiers).

Get to the cashier finally, shes looking at the screen for 10 minutes, writing down the interest I was due and confirming with me.

Finally tells me I should get a cheque and she didnt know why the bloke on the phone told me to go the branch.

So to cut the long story short- the closing interest and any other amounts are transferred to an Abbey holding account. Wait a few days and you get a cheque in the post. My cheque turned up as expected a few days later.
