Hi everyone,
Have recently moved so my 'renewal reminder for a tax disc' has the old address on it so I can't renew it online. My tax runs out on 30th April and Mot runs out on 26th April. Can I take the Vehicle Registration Document V5 (ready completed with new adress and signed declaration) to the post office along with the current mot certificate and insurance certificate. Will the post office do the tax with the current mot certificate as it runs out in a weeks time. The point being I need the tax disc to be able to ride the moped 5 miles to the mot garage.
All help most gratefully received
kind regards
bella

You need a valid mot to get tax. Valid means when the disc starts.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

You have a tax disc on the moped at the moment. Take it for an MOT before the MOT/tax runs out.

The renewal thingy states the MOT must be valid on the day the tax disc starts, whichever method of getting the tax disc is used.
Seems unusual to me as whenever I ask to get an MOT they ask if I currently have an MOT as they can take my reg number in case the police get interested.0 -
get your car mot done then do the following as per the dvla website.
Change of address only
Complete your new address details on section six of your registration certificate:
enter your address – Post Office box addresses can only be used for companies and corporate bodies
sign and date the ‘declaration’ box in section eight
send the whole registration certificate to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BA
Note: If your vehicle needs taxing within the next four weeks please take the registration certificate to the Post Office® to tax and fill in section six.January Grocery 11/3740 -
Assuming the moped MOT works in the same way as the car MOT; You can have the MOT done up to 28 days before the old one runs out, but the new one starts from the expiry date of your old one.
ie take it in next week and ask for the new MOT to run from 27 April, the testing station will be able to confirm this from their DVLA database.
Then use this to purchase tax at PO and handover Logbook for Address change at same time.0 -
Thanks everyone for your prompt and helpful replies.0

you can also legally drive your vehicle to and from a pre-booked MOT without a valid tax disc provided you are insured.

Although I am sure the car must be kept off the road? And also aren't you supposed to be fined if you do not declare SORN or renew the tax (which is not possible without a renewed MOT).flutterbyuk25 wrote: »you can also legally drive your vehicle to and from a pre-booked MOT without a valid tax disc provided you are insured
Sorry this is getting more complex
