Student finance?

I have just noticed this on my student finance application "We are waiting for Financial documentary evidence" When I completed the form it said that they didn't need any evidence from me, I'm confused what could this be?

Is it evidence from your parents or partner?

Do they need this when I am 25 years old? Am I not classed as a independent student now?

Yes you would be. Do you have a job or an extra income that you've put on your application? Are you living with your partner?

No I live with my parents and have no job as I've been at college for the past year, also with my parents income we have less than £16,000 a year coming into the household so I'm not sure what it could be

If you're over 25 you're independent and not based on your parents' income. You didn't give your age in your first post which is why I asked this.

The Student Finance site seems muddled when it comes to evidence. I had an email saying that they are waiting for extra evidence from me, and to log in and check the 'Evidence Summary' for exactly what I need to send (like you, I was initially told I wouldn't need any evidence). I logged in ... to find no such thing as an Evidence Summary. I ignored it, and they then sent through my Final notification of what I receive.

So if you can't see an Evidence Summary on your screen, I'd say leave it for, say, one month, and if you don't hear anything from them, then ring them up.

Have you received your final notification for 09/10? Are you a continuing student?

How long after applying did it take you to receive your confirmation letter?

  • I think there are still a few bugs in the new "Student Finance England" website.

Luckily, they do have a helpline and a free webchat facility.

I've had the same problem (i.e. wanting evidence.... but not wanting evidence!) but I got it all sorted via the webchat - they told me to fill in the paper form :rotfl:!!

I used to work at SLC and, without fail, there was always teething problems at the start of online applications. This year will probably be worse than usual due to them transferring over to Directgov.
