Early discharge and soa queries

Hi everyone - it's been a while since I was on here. I was made BR in Oct 2008 - at the time I wasn't working and was off sick. At the time the OR said he would put me in for an early discharge. I then got better and found a staff job (good news I know). Once I had advised the OR of my new status I had to fill a SOA in. I sent this back in January and was advised that they would be "in touch". It's now nearly the end of April and no word. Question is - do you think this is good news and that I'm not going to get an Income Order put onto me? or could this still happen?
Also, Early Discharge - what are your experiences of this as in - how early is it normally? is it a set timescale or could it be anything from say 6 months to 11 months? I know I'll automatically be discharged in Oct
Have to say it's really weird not living off credit cards - really makes you realise that once the salary has gone, it's gone and hopefully I'm doing a great job of budgeting.
thanks again everyone

Some people here have had ED after 5 months, while for others (me :() it was 10 1/2 months. Plus everything in between.

With the SOA/IPA, do you have a surplus of £100 or more? When did you give them the new figures?

...or for some no ED at all.

  • I sent the SOA back in January - and that's when they said "we'll get back to you" and never have. I don't think I did have a surplus of £100 - I did my best to try and tie everything up. Suppose really I was expecting them to query things. So really - the question is, if they felt I was living excessively and the SOA wasn't justified, wouldn't they have come back to me by now?

They never questioned my SOA and I had a 3 hour face to face interview - the SOA wasn't even mentioned or looked at.

  • but did you get an income earnings order (or whatever it's called) put on you? That's my worry. I haven't been told whether I will or won't - so was hoping the lack of response having had the SOA for 4 months might be positive as in - I won't have an Earnings Order put on

Mine was a phone interview - I wasn't working at the time though - which is why the SOA wasn't needed until 2 months later

potentially then, if they decided I do need an Earnings Order - will they ask for backpay because it's been 6 months since I started work and that's 6 months of money I have spent on day to day living

Nope.....IF they decide you have a surplus it would start from the day they tell you...its NEVER backdated

Although....I'd be tempted to say leave it as it is & no news is good news!

The OR will not ask for backpay, as for the early discharge it all depends on how efficient or busy your clerk is, however it may be worth giving them a ring as it is possible that you may have been discharged and they haven`t told you.
