Petrol thief - :(

Hey guys,
Someone cut my fuel line on my VW Polo and probably got away with £3 worth of fuel.
As I have 3rd party, fire and theft cover I can't claim this on my insurance.
I got lucky and I found a piece of rubber tube that fits perfectly inside to temporarily bridge the gap until I can get it repaired.
Does anyone have any idea how much this might cost me to get it repaired?
I'm gutted this has happened. I've moved from a right crap hole to somewhere that's considered safe and this happens :T

was it the plastic line they cut?
is it injection or carb
id imagine a length of suitable fuel hose and some nice hose clamps would make a safe repair0 -

Yes, the plastic hose was cut.
Injection system.
So the whole hose wouldn't need replacing?0 -
personaly id give it a go with the repair piece and keep an eye on it...as long as its proper fuel hose capable of the pressures involved
see if anyone else chimes in0 -
Is it really secure though, the state of our roads it might get ripped off?
You could try the scrapyard?

if you decide to replace it...try www.clubpolo.co.uk theres always some breakers in the classifieds on there0

I had a plastic pipe split on on of my cars. Bit of a smell of petrol, and about 10mpg were the only signs. I had to replace it, the whole length of the car. Wasn't very dear though, just a pain to do.
The injection system should pressurise everything, and if it's the fuel return you may not notice if it goes initially, apart from the smell.
For the sake of a few quid it's worth replacing.0 -
i would take it to a small garage and explain the situation0

A scrapyard is the way forward. That's my mutt in the picture above.0

I'd make sure it was fixed properly. Petrol dripping/spraying around near hot engines and exhausts doesn't sound a very good combination!0
-
Get it replaced with a new section of pipe. Petrol has a way of burning, with lots of heat and smoke. Not something you want to happen, particularly as your insurance company won't pay out due to the bodged repair.0
