i recently bought a new (to me) car which was advertised by the garage as having rain sensing wipers (which i was particularly pleased about cosi hate wipers lol)... i told them they werent working so the car went back to them yesterday to be fixed (along with a couple of other minor faults)

anyway they rang me to say that the car doesnt have rain sensing wipers.. now as far as i can see it the car was misrepresented and whilst i guess if i pushed it i could insist on a refund i dont really want to cos i like the car

so purpose of this thread is what should i ask/settle for in compensation.. by the way i have emailed the garage and await a response, the car is still there awaiting my collection

thanks in advance

Well if you can prove that they advertised it as such, then they should be duty-bound to fit them.

That said, I've got them on my car and they're not that good really...

If they advertised the car as having them, they have the responsibility to fit them or refund you. As you want to keep the car, you might want to try a get some money back from them stating that you would have paid less if you knew the car didnt have them (rain sensing wiper tends to be around a £500 option on most new cars so use that as a guide price in negotiating).

I have had rain sensor wipers on 2 cars and personally, I dont think they are worth it. Thet usually have a mind of their own .... sometimes they are quickly wiping away when theres harly any rain and at other times the screen is covered in rain and they are wiping every 10 seconds.

    Hi shykins

this may not be in your situation, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Have a look on the advertising material for something that says "E&OE".
This stands for "errors & omissions excluded/excepted and basically means that you will be unable to refer to this document if you later find something to be different to what you understood it to be.

If it appears anywhere on the document(or conditions apply, or see x for further details, or this offer may not represent the car you are looking for etc) you are "ahem" stuffed.

Rain sensitive wipers IMO opinion are a fantastic thing (mabye t'other posters cars aren't set up the same way), but I don't think that they can be retro fitted.

I think that anything that you get from the dealer will be "goodwill" only and may be a reduced price on a service etc - if you're lucky.

If they had sold the car as a 2.0lt when it was in fact a 1.3lt then I think you would have a real grumble and chance of success - no rain sensitive wipers, I think it comes down to how much time/money that you want to throw at the situation.
