Urgent help required! Tiscali hell

:mad::mad:Please help.
Tiscali terminated my service last December as instructed by me as I changed to my current provider (Talk Talk). Since they, they are STILL billing me despite the fact that I am not receiving a service. I called them and asked to stop sending me letters and write me a list of the charges they think relate to my account.
Never heard since, and now I receive a distressing letter from a debt collector agency saying that they will recover the money soon.
Called Tiscali again, who are now saying that I (!) need to provide evidence that my account was terminated last december as they can not gather this information themselves.
This is a serious matter that is affecting me and my family. My credit rating may also be affected.
I can not believe that there are no legal rights protecting consumers and that companies which are obvioulsy incompetent are allowed to intimidate honest consumers like me.
Can anyone advice further? I think that this has become a legal matter and I do not believe that writing a letter will in fact solve anything at all, as they tend to get "lost" even when they are sent recorded delivery.
Feeling helpless here..

Need to make a "formal complaint" in writing and not deal with the idiots who they seem to employ at customer services.0

I had major problems with them a while back,
I called one of the top bods in the complaints department - the person I spoke to was the chief exec of customer services. My problem was dealt with within 4 hours and they gave £40 compensation too.
Give them a call on 0208 495 44220 -
They were on Watchdog last week, so you're amongst many who have had problems.
As Tozer and Debthater have said, you should go above the C/S dept. now.0 -
Thank you - that really helps.0
