speed?

I thought this was a bit slow today and clicked on the wee icon at the bottom for "internet connection". It says 8.1 mbps. Bearing in mind I live really out in the wilds with an exchange that gives me only 1 ISP, is this slow or not really ?

8.1mbps would actually constitute a fairly quick connection (faster than average at any rate). To be honest though it wouldn't be any faster than a 1mbps connection if all your doing is downloading web pages. The only time it'd make a difference is if you were to download a large file of some description. Saying a connection is fast is a bit misleading, a fast connection can simply download more data than a slower one in the same time.

Image two sand timers one with a small hole in the middle and one with a hole 8x as big. The timer with the bigger hole is going to finish much quicker, even though the sand is falling at the same speed in both timers.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that its probably not your connection thats causing the slowness... unless its effecting all the other sites you visit too.

It just seems to be today. Ty both, will have a look at that site and will see if it gets better later on.
