car failed mot fixed at the garage but they did the wrong things

:eek:my daughter took her car to kwik fit for an MOT it failed on a number of things totalling approx £300

one of the things being that it needed a new headlight she went away and booked it in at kwik fit 2 days later to get the things fixed and a retest

anyway basically kwikfit replaced the wrong headlight but then passed the car for MOT should they have not had to do a complete retest or at least someone else checked the things the car failed on to pass the mot

surely the car failed its mot first time round on a faulty headlight so if it was still faulty cos they fixed the wrong one it shouldnt have passed!

she has all the paperwork receipts etc

she has proof that the new light was fitted on the wrong side as they left the cover of the new light on the engine under the bonnet:eek: (is that not a fire hazard

how does my daughter stand and what should she do

ps i know she should have gone to a better place than kwik fit but the garage is over the road from where she works

as her car needs a service do you thing we could ask for them to put it right and offer a free full service or wouldnt touch them with a barge pole!! is there so much that can go wrong with a service

all help and advice gratefully appreciated

  • When you say light what do you mean?

Was it just the bulb itself?

  • Do you know why?

Either way though I would expect them to replace the "broken one" free of charge.

Anyone considering doing the same (especially young people who know little about cars) please take note!
anyway basically kwikfit replaced the wrong headlight

Are you sure? Are the reflectors (which i'm assuming was the part that was replaced) universal, i.e. fit both sides? And they just left the old headlight cover on? If you are 100% sure they messed up, then give VOSA a ring:

Should you get your car serviced there? I'll leave you to answer that one........

Going to Kwikfit for an MOT was the error here I would say. Although you should expect everything to be sorted to a legal standard and to your satisfaction.

I avoid Kwik Fit like the plague. I was forced to go there last year to get the tracking done. I was ready for their onslaught.

When I was told that the brake pads were wearing down and would start grinding soon, I found it immensely satisfying to inform them that the brakes had recently been overhauled, with new discs, calipers and pads.

I would take the car back and demand that the broken headlight is replaced free of charge. I would ask them what the hell they meant by 'broken'... I have personally experienced dodgy wiring and blown bulbs but never anything that required the entire headlight to be replaced.

Then I would never go there again.

    Amen to that.

And do ring VOSA with a complaint.
