recording programmes from tv/freeview

My father has a dvd recorder which is a pain and doesn't record from freeview.I thought a 80gb hd recorder which i thought would solve the problem but as it has built in freeview it doesn't appear to be compatible with their digital tv which already has freeview built in .

what else can i get to help record freeview ?

cheers

In what way is it not compatible with the TV?

Make and model of TV and recorder please.
All you should need to do to record is ensure that you select the appropriate AV channel on the TV. Select what you wish to record and if you want you can then go back to the TV's internal tuner and watch what ever you wish.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

be sure the recorder has a digital arial plugged into it.
when you are trying to record you need to select the correct 'input'....on ours you press the source button until it is either the freeview or else 'scart' which is SKY so we can record it.
