I would send them a paypal gift in gratitude as if I had been in the sellers shoes I'd of probably been a non-preforming one.0

I sent him £2.00 towards the postage. So at least hes not out of pocket.0

This kind of thing is probably going to get more common especially as ebay are now limiting postage costs in certain categories.
I sold an item this week where the max p&p could only go up to 5 pounds, i stated it would be sent 2nd class and signed for, however parcel was too heavy to go second and it had to go first class and ended up costing me 8.97!!!! (good job i reuse packaging and boxes!!)
The item only went for 14 pounds, and was probably worth double that!! It's something ebay sellers have to expect. I'm learning all the time! If i'd known it would cost so much to post i would have sent via courier, as i usually do if an item will cost more than 8 to post. I never got any reimbursement from my buyer (not like i'd expect it either, people go on ebay for bargains and that's what he got!) I did however get glowing feedback and DSR's... (Out of 8 items posted this week its the only feedback i've got from any of them!!)
Lesson learned *Must purchase better weighing scales*!!!If google doesn't know it, how should i?0 -
I've sent someone the extra postage before when I remember how much I was charged to what it cost (not if it's coppers but an amount to make a difference) - treat others as you would like to be treated yourself is my motto - good for you OP to send it - you've probably just made their day (unlike the buyer who bought a girls skirted leotard I was selling - was selling a dance jacket too which never sold so I sent it with the leotard - she only paid about a fiver all told and as postage was only for a leotard it ob. didn't cover the cost of a jacket to, but at the time, I thought I was doing a nice thing - well she didn't say thank you either by message or mention it in her feedback to me - must admit I felt really upset by that)0

Yes we've all made mistakes but I am concerned at the number of people suggesting that they never check actual posting costs before listing. Surely you make a mistake once then you become excessive about checking the weight and postage method so you don't get stung again?
A long while ago I used to actually email other book sellers who were listing at a loss if they appeared to be new sellers. So many people used to bung a £1 postage on a chart paperback without realising the true costs even where they started th ebook at 1p. Some thanked me for bringing it to my attention, most ignored me (as I would expect) and some even emailed me to say that I was obviously very inexperienced at selling (I used a throw away account with just 5 feedback) as obviously books wouldn't cost more than 75p-£1 to post so to stop talking nonsense.
In the end I gave up and bought up all the really cheap books, some I got for a few pence item cost and a pound or less postage. I read some, sold some back again and charity book faired some.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You cant help some people can you? You did right buying the stuff from them. If it was you there would be a queue book sellers catching you out.
I must admit though I have been caught out since the postage has increased. There doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.
Ive also notice some sellers selling similar items to me and charging large letter price for postage when its a packet. It not that theyre adding the extra postage to the item either.
I cant understand how they do it. I dont know if they havent noticed or just printing large letter postage and putting it in the postbox instead of taking it to the P.O
It wont be me telling them though, im not as nice as you.0 -
I've emailed sellers in the past too, about postage, At one time (although around 3-4 years ago) i sold a Joystick for a Sega console, and i'd sold it as 3 postage. Ended up costing us a lot more to post even at the cheapest rate, and when back from P.O i emailed someone else selling same item to warn them as she'd listed hers for 2 pound postage! She was very happy! It is very confusing since all the rates changed though. I never knew that items could be too large/heavy to send 2nd class??!If google doesn't know it, how should i?0

its the seller responsability to make sure they charge the correct postage0

The only thing that gets me is when I price something as a large letter and my local sub PO insist it is a package, as that can double the cost. After a few mishaps with it I now insist that if it does go through the slot that I'll take the risk of it going as a large letter, even though they insist it has touched the sides and must therefore go as a package.
If they refuse outright I just tell them I'll take it home and repack, and instead I either take it to the sorting office if I have to go out in the car anyway (as they'll take anything that goes through the slot) or I self stamp and take the risk.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
