Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Acc

Is there a cancellation fee to be paid if you close or downgrade your account within the first 30 days? I have been looking through the documentation they sent and can't see anything.

I used to have a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current account and cancelled it after 7 months because I wasn't happy. It states in the T&C's that it is a 12 month minimum term but, I wasn't charges a fee for cancelling.

I did try to cancel in branch but they told me I would be charged a fee but wouldn't say how much! So I wrote to Customer Relations and they closed the account down.

OK I think I have been screwed here.
I was informed of the "URCA" because on my standard current account I was only getting 1.5% interest, and on this one it would be 2.5%- I had no idea about the other perks. I have now found out from the documentation I received this week that there's a fee every month of £12 for the "privileges".

I went into the branch and the first assistant told me that there WOULDNT be a charge if i cancelled the account within 30 days. The second assistant, who I assume was her manager, informs me there will be a significant charge because its a 12 month contract. !!!!!!?!?
So is there any way I can get out of this account? If i have to keep it open in some shape-or-form then so be it, but i dont want to be paying £12!

    Help please

Send a letter off to customer relations, as I mentioned above, I had the account for 7 months and cancelled it without charge.

you can cancel at anytime. you will only be charged a cancelation fee if you have used any of the benefits of the account .

its not a 12 month contract it did used to be but that changed months ago.
i sell these everyday and it contains the phrase you can cancel at any time though a fee maybe charge if you do use the benefits . or something close to that :p
