We are not mortage free yet by any means, but as we are on a tracker and the interest rate is so low it is now £87 per month. A few months ago it was £600+

It is now less than half of our council tax!!

    I was 60.

But for the previous 10-15 years it had been negligible in relation to my income.

Me too, mortgage was paid off in 2000, so I was 37 and since then I have supported my children through higher education and the last couple of years it's all about the retire at 55 plan ;)

Are you using the 'spare' £500+ a month to pay off the capital?

No, we are actually using that to pay off other debts. We have had a hard time in recent years and this has given us a bit of a break and a chance to straighten things up a bit.
