Hi,
briefly i lost my 19yr old cat last yr & sadly last week my dear 15yr old westie was put to sleep. Am trying the best i can to get over this latest loss (not easy, house so empty). Basically my lovely daughter/ hubby/ parents have got together & have announced we will buy you a kitten when the time is right. knowing i am the most daftest person with animals they have checked out which cats are the most affectionate & have come up with the british shorthair as they know i love a cuddly lapcat. now, i have never seen on of these babies only in pics. does anyone have one & can tell me about thier characters? I am not truthfully over losing my cat even tho it was aug last year, but my daughter keeps saying - mum kittens are born now & may & they arent allowed home till 13 wks so maybe it is time.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your furbabies. My friend has 3 BSH's, 2 love fuss one doesn't. I'd suggest a good old Rescue Moggy personally (But not tabby they seem quite independant lmao)0

I have a 3 1/2 year old lilac BSH and he is the most docile cuddly cat I have ever owned. The only thing about him which doesn't fit with the breed type (they are meant to be quiet) is that he does 'talk' quite a bit. He is very clever but a little bit clumsy and I love him to bits. He is currently purring away like a train next to me.
I would really do your research though and go and speak to a breeder near to you before deciding.Savings: £25000.00/£40000 by Jan 010 Weight: 9/14lbs by 15 May 09 Fitness: going ok0 -
sorry to hear about your loss
i don't think it's necessarily the breed that is affectionate. we have 2,
one is very friendly but won't sit on your lap - happily on the same couch but at arms length.
the other is less friendly (more stroppy and temperamental) but at times will come and sit on your lap and purr happily for ages.
everyone has their own experience of shorthairs - i think it's a lot to do with parentage and how they're treated as kittens that determines how affectionate they are later on.

Pedigree kittens are usually not sold until they are at least 12 weeks old, so the breeder has a good idea of their personalities.
Look for a breeder that keeps the kittens indoors so you know they are well-handled and used to household noises. If they have a litter due, you can probably meet the kittens a few times before you buy - though you may be asked to put a deposit on your chosen one. A good breeder can pick out the especially people-orientated kittens and point you in the right direction.
I have 2 Maine Coons and while they love being around people and [STRIKE]like[/STRIKE] demand lots of attention, they are not "lap-cats"!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
