Passports Recession Proof??

Ive just been quoted a price for a Passport these days, and it was £70+!
I remember a few years back when they were £30!! Whats happened since? I mean, they're passports, not gold plated books.
No chance of these things actually doing the unthinkable and coming DOWN in price?

Went up by about £6 two years ago I think. But I guess it was 10 years ago when you last got one! Oh well £100 plus by the time I re-new then!!!0

Hahaha!! That reply made me laugh so hard.
The PC society will come down so hard on you.0 -
Govt policy is that agencies like the passport office are self-funding - so the user pays all the costs.0

Is £70+ really to much for a passport that enables 10 years of foreign travel, £7 a year, or less than £1 a month. If you dont want to travel you dont need one. I dont see a problem with the price0

My passport (biometric, compliant with all the latest security standards) and ID card (again, biometric, compliant with all the latest standards) cost me less than 15 pounds together. Seems to me as if they're clearly exploting British citizens.
As far as I know, isn't foreign consular assistance paid for out of passport fees too? From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

What a beer with bits of gold in it?
foreign consular assistance- I found them very unhelpful when needed
Suppose our passport money is for the foreign consular to wine & dine foreign business men in case they may want to invest in this country0 -
I clearly went in the wrong bar, last time I was in London.0
