feeding 6 for as little as possible

hi, I am trying to reduce food shopping drastically and i'm feeding me, dh and four ds youngest is 13. Basically feeding 5 adults, oldest ds doesn't eat any veg, pasta, rice etc.
Others will eat all things like that.

They all expect some form of meat or fish , but have had meals like jckt spud with tuna or beans and cheese etc.

I have started making own pizza's and have always made home made soup.
I think i've reduced food bill by half, I don't buy biscuits and impuse 241 buys any more and buy lots of own brands, but only bits of value stuff.

thanks for any input
Starting to save £2 coins again, but it is a struggle:rotfl:Not doing very well keep spending them

Is eldest DS just fussy or he REALLY doesnt like these type of foods?

I would do meals that can be bulked out and served for all and you could double up on some to freeze for the following week. Meals like:

Roasts (Cheap meat cut, roasties, yorkies & 2 veg)
Shepherds Pie (I add baked beans and serve with peas & cabbage)
Toad In Hole (+mash & veg)
    Stews/Cassaroles
    Sausage & Mash
    Curry
    Chilli
    Spagbol

    HTH

    PP
    xx

    Hi

I already make some of the meals you suggested and have started bulking out with red lentils and nobody's noticed yet!
I have to make 3 packed lunches every day eas well. I am makng a lot from scratch including twinks hobnobs, but they eat them straight away!!

There are some interesting posts around on learning to hid snacks so that they can be eaten over a period.

One suggestion is inside saucepans. Another is in your own wardrobe.

Not sure if you can freeze them - maybe look on the twinks thread? I would keep hide half in an airtight box in your wardrobe/cosmetic cupboard/ under clean bedding/ basically places the kids won't look or find by accident. ironing basket!

Have you tried the Change for life website? I think there are some food ideas on there. Also the Love food hate waste website is good. I'm also a big fan of Leanne Ely's ebooks on savingdinner.com (however this cost money)

  • I freeze twinks all the time thats the only way to stop my boys eating them in one sitting. I just put them in the lunch obx frozen and by lunch they are ready for eating.

I have to do the same...only I put in bags in wardrobe..usually crisps and biscuits. If I didn't they would be gone they same day. Then as if by magic I produce some goodies during the week to tide them by.

ps These are not young children but adult children I have to hide them from. :rotfl:
