Volunteer Work Experience

During July i am looking for some volunteer work in the area of law. I have a number of solicitor placements but feel that a volunteering element to my C.V. would be advantageous.

Has anyone got any ideas of a law related volunteer role i could apply to - i would be free for one week in Llandudno (wales)

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • CAB might be the obvious one, but if there is a mental health advocacy service in Llandudno (try google) you could ask if you could shadow an advocate for the week. They work in mental health law.
  • Hello there, i went through the very same issues as you and still am, local law firms would be your best bet, otherwise it would be a good idea to volunteer or obtain internships with charities or in politics.
I would suggest you look at and join up to https://www.interns-network.org.uk and https://www.w4mp.org.uk

I think these sites are correct if not search google, but they are a great place to start and interns network send out an excellent weekly email advertising opportunities.

    Hope this helps

You might struggle for a week, as working with vulerabel people ( say in advocacy or advice via a advocacy r supprt group) may request you have your CRB check done for them. Is there no way you could manage a couple of hours a week with one at UNi?

Could you be a court usher? It's basically looking after the witnesses and the accused when they are in the court building waiting for the case to come up. Just reassuring them, making drinks, keeping an eye on them etc.

Which area of law are you planning to go into, thats the key really to finding the right avenue to go down.

For example if you are wanting to specialise in the mental health act and the legalities of that then volunteering for scope might help. ACAS if you are interested in employment law, etc.

or the Witness Support Service, does a similar role but can be more intensive with very nervous court attenders.

Try contacted your local Law Centres ..... not sure how much real experience you will get for a short term role ... but most train volunteers to be Legal Advisers to NVQ4 level - takes about a year.
