Hi guys
i am in the process of finalising a trip to usa
now my plan is to go for 3 weeks and my start point is new york city area and end point is key west area
now i have been doing some reserch and getting prices and flights are fine
but it is the car hire which is killing me there is something called a one way penelty which adds like £500 to the cost of the car hire
and when the car hire only £250 its a great amount
so what i am wondering is has anyone done this before is there anyway to avoid it, by maybe doing to journey in reverse or starting or finishing in neighbouring town
any help is very appreciated

Hi,
What about doing one of car things where you pick up car & transport somewhere else for someone .... you have a certain number of days & don't get a choice of car ... not sure of exact terminology to search for in google??

They don't charge for certain rentals:
There is no fee for one way rentals within the states of Florida and California, or for one way rentals between the states of California, Arizona and Nevada.
But unfortunately this doesn't apply to the type of rental the OP is planning on.:starmod:C'est la vie:starmod:0 -

It's called driveaway.
However it won't provide a car for a 3 week holiday - probably for 2 days to drive from NY to Florida if you are lucky
OP will probably do better hiring in NY, returning the car and flying/train to Florida to pick up another car for the rest of the holiday.0 -
Hi guys
cheers for all replies, yeah i looked at driving someone elses car but i wanted to visit different places, from new york to key west, or key west to new york
is there no way around this one way fee then, it is just a shame because it means it is not afforable for me0 -
anyone else can help0

I really don't think there is a way to avoid the drop of fee. Depending on where you want to visit between NY and Florida can you not fly between destinations, and then pick up a rental car in Florida and explore the state on your way down to Key West?:starmod:C'est la vie:starmod:0

I have recently been in the same predicament and the cheapest for me was www.carhire3000.com. They get good reviews on MSE elsewhere as they include all required insurances free of charge and were the cheapest for me aswell. good luck0
