Installing an NEC 3500 DVD Rewriter

I've just received an NEC 3500A DVD rewriter. It is an OEM unit (not retail) so I expected minimal supporting information and hoped there might be Nero 6 Suite 1 or equivalent burning software. In practice neither. It's to replace a broken MSI CDRW.

I haven't yet examined it in detail but assume there will be dil switches for setting address and IRQ. Two questions:

1. Where can I get details of how to set up and install the drive so I don't break it before it even gets into the system unit?
2. Any recommendations of suppliers for purchasing the software?

Which version of Windows are you running?

All you will probably need to do is set the jumper on the rear of the drive to be Master or Slave (check the drive you are removing and set it the same as that if in doubt).

Once connected to IDE cable and power it should be recognised by Windows and you can go from there.

I agree that Nero is probably the market leader in burning software, but mine came bundled. You should be able to pick up the OEM version of Nero 6 for somewhere around the £10 to £15 mark. Try Dealtime.co.uk or ebuyer.

I'm running ME and have found Nero 6 Suite 1 for about a fiver (post free) from cd-writer.com. Hope they're reliable.

When that comes I'll try setting up the drive and add another reply to this thread if I get into more problems.
