I had a tiny kitchen in my old house, that was difficult to work in, so I understand where you are coming from.
A big kitchen was high on my "wishlist" when I viewed houses. I loved this one, as the kitchen is a decent size, and I've also got a really long bench along the wall in the utility room. I use that as overflow space, for cooling down cakes/biscuits or when I'm cooking lots of dishes such as at Christmas and birthday parties.
Mine has changed since I took the pictures. There was a door leading into the kitchen from the hall, which was only closed when I needed to get into the larder cupboard behind it. My husband took the door off to see what it would look like, and the difference was amazing. The kitchen looks bigger and I don't have to keep moving the door. Had the wooden frame taken off the door, and an archway plastered in, and it looks much better. Just need to decorate the kitchen now!
We've got a glass display cabinet with the best china in on one kitchen wall, and a ¾ upright freezer, then a normal fridge and a small bookcase with bench over the top underneath it.
I've just bought a dresser unit to go in the dining room to put the best china in, and now we are saving up for one of those big American fridge/freezers. Going to knock the glass cabinet, bench and bookcase out to make room for the new fridge. Will have enough room next to it for another tall larder style cupboard, that I can put all my OS gadgets (breadmaker, food processer etc) in, and my cookery books so it'll look much tidier.
Just funds that's stopping us at the moment, but saving hardHere I go again on my own....0 -
I just discovered this thread as i typed in worktop as a search as i wanted to see what people thought about gloss verses matt worktops as i want gloss but it seems to scratch very easily and take a lot of maintenence.
By the way you all have lovely kitchens even the small ones are well done and nice and homley.

Hi, what a great thread! I have read through it all (took a few days...), and loved all your pics of your kitchens! They are great. Hope you don't me joining in - I would love to see some more kitchens (anyone not posted theirs?)
If it works... here's mine:
The kitchen and utility room are just one long room with an arch between them. This kitchen was in when we moved in (6 years ago), and I believe it is about 15 years old now, but I love it so much we have not changed anything!
LOADS of storage, and hidden built in stuff, like a fridge in the kitchen (one of the under counter cupboards), a dishwasher and microwave. Plus 2 eyelevel ovens.Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0
