Insuring a wheelchair adapted vehicle

I have spent about three hours today trying to insure our new wheelchair adapted Kangoo.
I thought I would just have to alter my existing insurance from the old car,but they don't insure wheelchair adapted vehicles.(It is a proper Gowrings conversion)
Neither,it seems do a number of other insurers.
I did most of the enquiries via this site, online, but all of them then wanted me to telephone .After repeating all the details I had already given online, they then turn round and say can't do it!
Even YES.com said No!
Finally got insured, but I could hardly understand the guy on the phone as he had a strong asian accent,so I hope when the paperwork arrives it's all okay,as there is a £30 cancellation fee!
Anyone had similar experiences .
Why the difficulty ?
I wouldn't have thought we were high risk drivers!

Hi - here are several companies that specialize in covering cars for disabled drivers and wheelchair users and they have all been in business a good few years :-
fishinsurance.co.uk
enrouteinsurance.co.uk 0800.783.7245
chartwell disabled driver agency 020.8958.0900
mobilityinsurance.com
My advice would be to be prepared to sacrifice the £30.00 and get cover through a firm from the above who specialize in the particular niche insurance that you need for a specialized vehicle like yours. You need to be confident that if you do have an accident it will be sorted out quickly and with minimal hassle.
Best of luck
