I have spoken to Trading Standards today who have taken copies of all my confirmation details/transcript of phonecalls so they can take a look into a possible breach of contract.

I have informed Global Travel that I will not be making any decisions until Trading Standards have got back to me, which should be within a day or 2.

Thanks for all your posts, will keep you updated.

I have also reported Global Travel to Trading Standards before - this time it was for charging me more than the advertised price without my authorisation. Got them into some trouble and got me a full refund.

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole again!!

I have just received a phone call from someone from Global Travel Group who informed me that due to an error with the airlines system (continental airlines) I had been charged incorrectly for the flight as they had omitted to add on taxes etc. The corrected price will almost double the cost of my holiday.

Can I add my 2p worth?

Obviously I don't know your exact routing, but the tax with Continental on a UK to New Orleans fare is £58. If they are saying that the cost of your flight is now double then this is nothing to do with the tax and the error is theirs not the airline.

IMO (and I am only speculating) what has happened is that they have quoted you a low fare that their system has confirmed when you booked, but for whatever reason at Global Travel Group they have not either issued the tickets in time or the system did not book the flights quoted and now the only availablity is in a much higher fare and they are trying to get out of what you have booked and paid for.

I use this site and look for bargains as much as the next person on here, but I also work in travel and see and hear so many times that when problems arise with internet bookings you cannot speak to anyone.

Shop around on the net for fares and also speak with travel agencies on the high street. I think you might be surprised to see that if you speak to the high street agencies they can usually match and sometimes even better internet fares. If something goes wrong with a booking on the high street at least you can speak face to face with someone rather than someone who is only interested in making sales and not give a stuff about problems. Also the high street agent is USUALLY more experienced and has knowledge that random flight websites do not. The high street agent offers service for free as they want to keep your future business where as the interenet only cares about the booking you are making there and then.

Do you know if they still have your flights booked? You might want to give Continental a call 0845 6076760 give them your name, travel dates and flight number. Just out of interest if the flight is still held ask them what booking class you are booked in as this will give me an indication if my theory is correct.

Good luck and do not let this one go. Enjoy your holiday in New Orleans when you eventually get there.

After many telephone conversations and with help from trading standards, I had a telephone call from Global Travel Group yesterday and they have agreed to honour the price that I purchased the holiday for.

It just goes to show that we should all be aware of our rights and not let companies get away with unfair terms and conditions or fob us of with jargon.

Thanks for all the posts of support on here. I can now finally begin to look forward to my trip!
