Help needed in choosing replacement car

I had a lovely little Suzuki Alto that was written off last week as someone kindly drove into the back of me. It was good little car, reliable, good on fuel, no problems etc but it was a bit of a tin can.

The car I have been driving whilst that was off the road is a Ford Ka, quite like the feel of it but feel a bit vulnerable in it and the fuel consumption is horrendous:mad:

I've got to move quite quickly now to find a replacement car. I'm looking for a hatchback up to 1.2 cc but don't really want a Ka. I've seen a 53 reg Fiat Punto in a local garage - low mileage, good nick etc - but have read so many different reviews I'm really not sure. My ideal would be a Micra but you can't find them for love nor money. Any other suggestions would be great.

Ther are nearly 2000 micras under 5 years old on Autotrader must be 1 or 2 near you.

Definitely piles and piles of Micra's around.
Skoda Fabia another favourite for reliaility.
