Talktalk early exit penalty

Hi all,
I signed up with Talktalk about two years ago for an 18 month contract. Once those 18 months were up a helpfull lady phoned and offered to help save us money by rearranging some aspects of our contract for us. I discussed this on the phone with her and agreed to some changes to our contract.
My circumstances have changed and I have had to leave that property and am technically homeless so I have no phoneline to use with a talktalk broadband / phone package. I phoned to cancel my service and was told that I had agreed to another 18 month contract and would have to pay a £70 get out fee or about £145 to see the contract through.
This seems rather unfair since the contract that I *signed* up for is spent and this new contract was negotiated over the phone under the pretext of saving me money and that I will be paying for a service that I am unable to recieve.
Is there anything I can do or do I just have to pay them the £70?
Many thanks in advance.
Andy.
