My pal is looking for a compact digital camera (not a bridge camera) that he can use, now and again, mainly for when he is looking at old buildings.
He doesn't have too much money and he wondered what he needed to spend to get something that will take a half OK picture.
Not Ebay and I have looked for him on Dpreview and such but more interested in real peoples real life experiences.
Help would be useful?

Canon Powershots?
That is just it - he would like to know what he needs to spend to get something half decent but he doesn't have too much money. He started at £100 but I have warned him he probably needs to go to £150 at which he is groaning. So I think I can get him to £150 but am absolutely sure he will NOT go a penny more?
I will take a look at the Canon Powershots - thanksA retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0 -
Thing is, you can spend a huge amount of money on really quite a poor camera if you're not careful. Somthing else to look at is photostich and the like, photoshop has a feature for combining multiple photos into a panorama, might be of some use.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

Sorry to add to my own post but I suddenly remembered an old post with a link to Argos and a Panasonic TZ5 about £150 which is really good value but link is now showing 'out of stock'. I wonder if they will get more stock in?
But anyone else with owt to say?A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0 -
I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 at the end of last year, partly because it had a minimal shutter lag and partly because it has a wide angle lens. The lens is equivalent to 28mm on a 35mm film camera. It's a very good camera and I have no complaints with it. This particular camera is now discontinued but cost around £140 at the time, but I'm sure they will do a similar model now. Panasonic also make cameras with the equivalent of a 25mm lens but these are more expensive.0

Again sorry to add to my own post but feel the Panasonic TZ4 looks interesting and about £150 and similar to TZ5 with slightly smaller screen. Does anyone have the TZ4 and what's it like taking shots in the sun with the LCD?A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build.
