Gas & Elec

Hi,

heard martin on radio 2 going on about this but missed some of the show (work).

My Mother & Father in law have never moved gas & electric and are still with the original suppliers from the old days British Gas & Npower. British gas have increased their monthly direct debit to around £65 to cover the gas, I think the Electric comes in at around £50.

They want to move to a cheaper supplier for both gas & electric, anyone got any ideas for suppliers?

Thanks in advance

Martin

I hope this is of use to someone!

I received a letter from Scottish Power on 6/3 saying that since, by their calculations, my current Direct Debit would not be enough to cover my usage and therefore they were raising my payment by £12 (the second £12 rise since 9/06!) I called to challenge this and got a right wee madam who looked at my payments and after some argument, grudgingly reduced my increase by £5.10.

I phoned again this evening with current readings and got a very helpful guy who stated that he was not on commission and was happy to advise me. This fella said there had been rises of 25%(!).He also said that the letters that are sent out are misleading (mine said I was in credit). On my current readings, he calculated that I was in debit and advised me to stick with the £5.10 rise, which he said should cover my winter usage. He then advised me to call back mid-May and ask for my DD to be re-assessed for summer usage.

I am obviously concerned that people will get this kind of letter in and panic at such a hike but leave it unchallenged. So I suggest to any other Scottish Power users to get on the phone!

    All the best, Hx
