I'm being driven mad by my Halifax credit card!

                    Hi,
I'd really appreciate any advice on this, I'm close to boiling point!
I've had a Halifax Marriott credit card for 6 months with a £2k limit. I called as soon as I got the card and told them that £2k simply wasn't enough as i wanted to make some large home purchases and they told me to wait a few months and call back, I waited 5 1/2 months but was told no again as I needed to have made 6 on-time payments, 5 wasn't enough.
I've been the perfect customer paying the balance in full by direct debit every month but with that low limit have just managed to go £144 over limit. I paid the outstanding amount immediately over the phone but I've been told now that I've got to pay a £12 charge and I'm unlikely to be considered for a limit extension.
I'm very annoyed about this, surely they can see that this wouldn't have happened if they'd allowed me more credit in the first place? I have a good credit score and enough cash in the bank to pay it off at any time.
Does anyone have any advise for how I can fight this and have the £12 charge credited back?

            Well, clearly you broke the rule by going over the limit. I feel for you but the fact is that single over the limit episode has hampered your internal score. They are now worried if you can manage your card effectively.
 I dont know if they would show you any sympathy but worth a try0

 Why would they see ? They asked you to manage your account responsibly by paying on time and staying within your agreed limit for 6 months to assess your worthiness for a limit increase. You have shown them by exceeding the limit that you may be struggling financially ? That may not be the case, but you have to play by the rules to get what you want. The only way to 'fight' this is to again ask and accept whatever their decision is. If it's not favourable to you, then go elsewhere perhaps ?
 As for the £12 charge, providing this is a one off you'll almost certianley get it refunded by calling them and explaining the situation very apologetically.0

 I fail to understand how if you pay in full every month, you managed to go over your credit limit by £144.00?0

            Quite easy, it would have been done by clearing the balance in full and then making a purchase/purchases totalling more than £2K during one statement cycle.

 I recommende you try online banking it should help you keep track of your spending.0

 They offered you a limit, you wanted more, they told you if you showed you were responsible they'd look at increasing the limit. You showed you weren't responsible, and now they're at fault because you broke your limit???0

            Frustrating - yes, unfair - no, as others have said, you'll have a little set-back on your internal credit score with halifax so may have to wait another 6 months for your limit to be reviewed. You'll almost certainly get the £12 back though if you explain. I'm not usually one to recommend taking out more credit, however, as you seem to be perfectly capable of servicing this debt as you say you clear the entire balance monthly, have you considered another card, which might give you a higher limit?0

            I went over the limit because the direct debit comes out later this month than usual, probably due to Easter and also the Halifax CC Internet banking was out of date meaning I thought I had more available CC limit than I actually did, not all transactions were showing I do pay the bill in full every month but as the bill is issued about 2 weeks before the payment date I always get close to the limit (or go over it in this case) by the time the payment is debited.
