why not ask Wimpey then you will get a 100% accurate answer!
there are a few variables:
- planning consent for the original development may have imposed such a condition for the usual reasons that town hall types seek to regulate the lives of others
- you may (unlikely) live in a conservation area which imposes strong restrictions for aesthetic reasons
- the council planning people simply do not like them and make it hard to get planning permission
- the design of your conversion does not require planning permission in the first place and you do not need to involve either Wimpey or your council at all
- you will need building regulations approval but I assume you will use a builder so they will handle that0 -
The roof trusses are likely to be completely wrong for a loft conversion. Modern trusses are very criss-crossy (technical phrase!) and not 'attic-trusses' which would enable an easier loft conversion!
If they have modern trusses you'd be taking off the roof and replacing all the trusses - very expensive and an awful lot of work.
If they're still building, look at the others and ask them what the trusses look like - I suspect they will be modern style trusses as they are cheaper - I doubt they'd be doing the groundwork for you.
Trusses aside, if it's viable cost wise then you should be able to do it under Permitted Development and even build out some kinds of dormer without needing planning permission. You would need building control involved though.
Even new builds are allowed to extend under Permitted Development rights unless they have specifically been taken away by the planners - which I doubt they would do on a Wimpey Estate.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Why bother buying a new build - just buy a house that's already big enough?0
