My mother in law asked me yesturday if Midland bank are still a bank because she came across a bank book the other day which she had forgot about and its got some money in it which she says she has never drawn it out but woule lik to now. Ive goggled it and it says its something to do with HSBC?????? If this is the case will she be able to draw it from HSBC?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

    if you go up to the banking and saving section above and scroll down you can see an article on reclaiming money from old bank accounts - hope it helps

  • I do remember many years ago that HSBC did indeed take over Midland Bank.
  • So do you think if they took the bank book into hsbc they will give them the cash? even though it was midland bank?

    They should be able to track down the account for her. There are still customers who have banked with Midland all their lives on the books, so someone will be able to find the account in the system, I imagine.

    Take the Midland book into any HSBC branch and they'll sort it out. Might take a bit of time, but the money is your mum-in-law's and HSBC are responsible for all Midland's accounts.
