Do we both have to declare a claim?

My wife and I have been sharing our car for the last few years. She recently crashed the car and it was a write-off. I was the main driver and she was a named driver.
With the insurance money we have purchased two cars. We want to insure one in her name and one in my name.
The problem we have is on all the price comparison sites there is a question usually phrased in the way "Any claims or accidents in the last x years?"
Well, my wife has had an accident and I have had a claim, so it looks like we both have to answer yes to this question.
Is this right? Do you think we should both be answering yes to this? It is affecting both our quote prices and it doesn't seem right that a single crash should affect the premiums of two people.

You need to declare the claim / accident for the driver who had the accident on each policy. If you have not had an accidents or claims personally then you do not have to declare any on your details just on the part of the quotes that relates to your spouse's details0

That's good news for me then. I was potentially looking at an expensive renewal.
So does that mean I keep my own no claims bonus if my wife has claimed on my policy?0 -
If your policy paid out on a claim, then you (if you are the policyholder) will see this reflected in your NCB going down (unless protected) at renewal.0

i think the claim is on your policy but with your wifes details as the driver at the time, and vice versa on her policysmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
