student loans company screwed me over...?

Got my loan through yesterday only to find that I hadn't...
I usually get £2500 a term, but this term I only got £940 (maintenence grant) and no loan.
Rang my LEA and was told I've been paid too much previously and they've taken off what I owe them?
My girlfriend, whos at the same uni and whos parents are also in the same financial bracket as mine (below £15,000 per year) got her full £2500.
Can anyone advise me what to do here? Have I missed something?

Well, have you been overpaid with previous payments or not? If you haven't, then you should appeal the decision. If you have been overpaid then surely you realised this?0

If you have an overpayment it will most likely have occurred in one of two ways:
1. You apply using an estimate of your parents earnings and they ask for proof of their actual income at a later date, so the latter may have been more than the former.
2. You did not respond to requests for proof of actual income, or they have not received it, and have therefore decided you were only entitled to the basic loan and the rest is an overpayment.
The other scenario is you have already studied at this level before and claimed student finance then, or you have exceeded your funding for this course by doing re-takes.
Do any of those apply?
FWIW: when I had an overpayment they made it very clear, in writing, what had been overpaid. And it was also clearly written on the payment schedule for the following year.
Have you not looked at your payment schedule?0 -
Actually, neither of the above are correct. There has been an amendment to the regulations recently regarding this.
Unfortunately, due to an SLC gagging order, I'm not allowed to say what it is. But I can confirm it's due to neither of the above.0 -

I really would like to explain, but I can't. Bit grumpy over this. I'm sure you'll be informed shortly about what has happened, and everyone will be happy.
Hopefully some bold person who is allowed to say will come on and do so.0 -

I did wonder why this didn't get quoted over the Damien Green affair.0
