Red letter stuck on telly screen

I wonder if anyone can help - I've searched the net and can't find anything on this. I've got an 11 year old Ferguson portable telly and for about the last year a red letter 'P' about 1 1/2 " high has been displayed in the top left of the screen - about the size of a channel logo, but rather distracting. I've pressed every combination of buttons I can find but to no avail. Any ideas on how to get rid of it before I fork out for a repair man?

Thanks!

    Check all the buttons again and see if there is one with a mark on the top left.
    That one usually turns on and off anything that is placed to appear on the top left of the screen

    Also try holding down the OSD button, rather than just pressing it - that should do the job!

    Go into standby mode using remote.

    Switch off using the switch on the telly.

    Then hold down the volume up and down switch on the TV and switch it back on .
    Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:

    Thanks all, tried all these and went through the manual but nothing works. The letter disappears for about 2 seconds whenever you press any button on the remote, which makes me think it's some kind of fault in the remote unit. The telly is a Ferguson T14T if that helps!

    Hi

    Try the following:
    Hold down the channel up and down buttons on the front of the tv whilst switching it on at the mains.
    Its probably cheaper buying a new telly than calling out a repair man!

    OSD=RED"P" POWER OFF,HOLD VOL+/VOL-,POWER ON

    It may vary from model to model, but try holding down other buttons on the tv, and power on, if the volume up/down buttons don't work

    Thank you so much to all who helped - the trick with the vol control buttons WORKED! I've had the tellie for eleven years and hope to keep it running for at least another ten! Thanks again!
