Electrical work - excessive quote?

Haha, thought I'd use a similar thread title here, as the quote is from the same plumbing/electrical company mentioned in my 'Condenser boiler' thread below:

Supply and install cable from the existing fused spur in the living room external out to light fitting supplied by client.

Install 1 gang blank plate to the existing dimmer switch in the living room.

Replace existing 2-gang light switch in the passageway with a new switch supplied by client.

Disconnect and remove 3 no double socket outlet plus a BT point from the main bedroom

Change existing surface socket to flush in bedroom 2.

They are quoting me over £328+VAT for what I would consider less than 2 hours work - this to me is clearly shocking as I know much more about electrics than I do plumbing. We're supplying all the materials, and most of the work for the outside light (RCD/terminal outside) has already been completed ages ago, so it would simply be running a cable to the (already installed) light. The removal of the 3 sockets would also be simple as they are fed from an existing single socket and attached via surface trunking. As for the BT point - its inactive and I'll be removing that myself..
I'd welcome any comments on the above..

Why would you use the same firm that has already overquoted you for a heating system ?

From your description, I would probably charge you 150 - 200 plus vat inc a certificate if reqd

That's the point Tom - I don't intend to - I asked them at the same time for electrical/pluimbig quotes, and the electrical guys have only just got back to me. After these two quotes thee's no way I'd be employing them - I may in fact just direct them to this website..

I would have expected £150 to be more than enough, even £100 - what's the average daily rate for an electrician these days? Considering this is no more than a couple of hours work I'm finding it a little over the top.

Well the electrician I employ charges 30 an hour, which may seem expensive but when you take into account his overheads, transport etc and he pays a mate to help it's reasonable IMHO, and I would have to allow him 4 hours for the job.

Have a look in a local diy shop/ironmongers for local electricians cards etc
